Engineering innovation for the medicines cold chain

Vale Lab is an R&D-led engineering laboratory advancing cold chain systems for temperature-sensitive medicines. We create repeatable methods, tools, and platforms backed by independent testing and high-quality measurement to reduce hidden risk in real-world conditions.

What We Do

Our work spans three complementary areas: we develop standardised cold chain system architecture and design rules; we deliver independent laboratory and field testing to validate performance and enable fair, side-by-side comparisons; and we build instrumentation, IoT connectivity, and automation to turn measurements into actionable insight and repeatable methods.

Architectural Design Work

Cold Chain Engineering & Standardised System Architecture

From requirements to

scalable architecture

We develop robust cold chain system architectures designed for repeatability, manufacturability, and broad adoption. Our work covers thermal architecture, material selection, and design rules that translate real-world constraints into standardised, scalable solutions rather than one-off builds.

Independent Testing, Measurement & Validation

Comparable performance evidence you can trust

We provide independent laboratory and field testing, and performance validation for temperature-controlled packaging and cold chain systems. Using rigorous protocols and high-quality measurement, we characterise real thermal behaviour, limits, margins, and variability across controlled and operational environments. We also support fair, side-by-side comparisons between solutions by applying consistent test methods, helping teams make confident selection and validation decisions beyond vendor-provided results.

Cold Chain Intelligence, Instrumentation & Automation

Turning measurements into design confidence

We develop instrumentation and sensor strategies, IoT connectivity, and automation to reveal how cold chain systems behave across lab and operational environments. This enables sensor mapping, root-cause analysis, and automated test workflows that reduce hidden risk and turn data into repeatable methods and design standards.

Our Mission

To advance the science and engineering of cold chain systems through repeatable methods, tools, and platforms, combining rigorous testing with sensing, IoT connectivity, and automation, to reduce hidden risk, improve reliability, and safeguard the efficacy, safety, and consistency of temperature‑sensitive medicines in real‑world conditions.

Our mission is driven by patient impact: minimising temperature excursions and improving confidence in cold chain performance across clinical trials and patient supply. We develop IP in‑house with the intent to licence it to OEM partners for manufacture and commercialisation, and we also co‑create with partners where appropriate. We aim to be a leading independent R&D and consultancy partner, providing clear evidence and enabling better decisions.

Our Values

Engineering Integrity

We believe cold chain performance must be proven, not assumed. Our work is grounded in rigorous testing, high‑quality measurement, transparent data, and scientific honesty, and we provide clear evidence even when results challenge established claims.

Real-World Impact

We design and validate systems for how they are actually used, not idealised lab conditions. Our focus is on reducing operational risk and variability across the full cold chain lifecycle, recognising that efficiency and cost reduction are outcomes of good engineering rather than primary drivers.

Partnership & Trust

We work closely with clients and partners as an independent, technically critical collaborator. Long-term relationships, clarity of scope, and mutual trust matter more to us than short-term wins.

Standardised, Scalable Solutions

We believe robust cold chain systems should be engineered for repeatability, scalability, and broad adoption. While grounded in real-world constraints, our work prioritises well-defined, standardised approaches that reduce unnecessary complexity.

Raising Industry Standards

We are driven by the belief that cold chain systems can and should perform better. Through education, validation, and innovation, we aim to raise expectations across the industry and contribute to safer, more reliable cold chain systems for temperature‑sensitive medicines worldwide.
